VIDEO: Texas Tech Fails Against Kansas After Fumbling Blocked Field Goal Return With Seconds Left
By Michael Luciano
Well, that's one way to grab your first Big 12 win. With Kansas tied at 34-34 with Matt Wells' Texas Tech Red Raiders in Lawrence, Les Miles opted to attempt a game-winning field goal, only to see kicker Liam Jones' kick blocked. Tech tried to return it for a touchdown and bring home a win, but safety Douglas Coleman lost the handle on a lateral and gave the ball right back to Kansas.
And there was juuuuust enough time on the clock for another try.
Jones would then nail a shorter 32-yard kick to give the Jayhawks a 37-34 win.
Miles and the Jayhawks should be commended for an excellent game in all three phases, as quarterback Carter Stanley threw for 415 yards, but let's not sugar coat this. Tech had a clear shot at OT and literally threw it away at the last second.
This shouldn't overshadow what has been a tremendous season from Coleman, who leads all of college football with seven interceptions, or Wells, but this loss was nothing short of a disaster.
