VIDEO: Tom Coughlin Reveals Pat Shurmur Reached Out to Him the Day He Benched Eli Manning

After last Sunday's last-second win against the Buccaneers led by rookie Daniel Jones, it's safe to say the Giants organization and their faithful are ecstatic with Pat Shurmur's decision to bench Eli Manning in favor of the Duke quarterback. But that still didn't stop Shurmur from reaching out to former head coach Tom Coughlin the day of the benching to give a heads-up about the change.

Coughlin became the Giants head coach the same year Eli Manning joined the organization, and the pair had developed a strong bond working together until 2015.
In the video, Coughlin discussed his close relationship with Manning and how he sees him becoming a mentor for Jones. In fact, there are already signs of this happening already.

Some might question Shurmur receiving confirmation on a decision that looked obvious. But considering Coughlin coached the team to two Super Bowls against the Patriots with Manning in the pocket, it's more than justified that he made this call.
