VIDEO: Umpire Lance Barksdale Misses Easy Strike 3 Call and Blames Yan Gomes
By Scott Rogust
There has been questionable officiating throughout each major sport in the 2019 calendar year. They even emerge on the greatest stages of them all, including the World Series. During the sixth inning, Washington Nationals pitcher Tanner Rainey looked to strike Michael Brantley of the Houston Astros out on a pitch on the bottom corner. Instead, home plate umpire Lance Barksdale missed it, and blamed catcher Yan Gomes for it, who questions "oh it's my fault?" Take a look for yourself and be the judge.
Gomes was baffled by the call, and manager Dave Martinez was livid. You could hear Martinez scream at Barksdale "wake up, it's the World Series!"
Luckily for the Nationals, the brutal mistake by Barksdale didn't hurt them, as Brantley flied out for the first out of the inning.
The robot umpires can't come soon enough.
