You know who is unlikely to umpire in the postseason, especially in the World Series? Veteran umpire Ted Barrett, who had a rough night behind the dish during the Atlanta Braves-Philadelphia Phillies game. He's human and I don't expect him to get every call right, but he missed seven calls in the bottom of the ninth, including four straight pitches from Mark Melancon to Cesar Hernandez. Take a look:

Luckily for Melancon and the Braves, it didn't have an impact on the outcome, but the Braves closer was certainly squeezed. Of course, one thing it did do is force Melancon to throw 27 pitches, so it's unlikely he'll pitch in the series finale if the game is close.

If you really want robot umpires in the big leagues, this footage of Ted Barrett will be used to confirm that the human element in baseball needs to be eliminated.

For the most part, these guys get it right and only miss roughly 4% of ball and strike calls. That was not the case last night, as Barrett missed virtually everything down the stretch.
