VIDEO: Victor Caratini's 2nd HR of the Night Off Jacob deGrom Breaks Cubs' Deadlock With Mets
By Jerry Trotta
When a pitcher of Jacob deGrom's caliber is in as much of a groove as he was on Thursday -- he allowed 1 hit and retired 14 straight batters heading into the seventh inning -- opposing hitters need to pounce on any scarce mistake he makes. Well, that's exactly what the Cubs did with two runners on in the top of the seventh frame. Check out Chicago first baseman Victor Caratini uncork a 3-run blast off the Mets ace DEEP into the Citi Field night to break a 1-1 tie.
Call it a slider that didn't break or a lifeless fastball, it doesn't matter. The reigning NL Cy Young winner doesn't miscalculate like that very often. Kudos to Caratini for getting the best of one of the best as he and the Cubbies aim for a sweep of the Amazins.
