VIDEO: Vlad Guerrero Jr. Got Tossed by Mike Estabrook After Swinging Strike 3 for 1st-Ever Ejection
By Karl Rasmussen
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was the victim of some rough calls on Friday night against the Astros, and he wasn't too happy about it. The Jays' rookie was down in the count after some questionable strikes issued by home plate umpire Mike Estabrook. After chasing a pitch out of the zone -- seemingly due to frustration -- Guerrero Jr. appeared to have some choice words for Estabrook while heading to the dugout. He pointed square in Estabrook's face before walking away, and the umpire ejected him from the ball game.
It was the first-career ejection for Vlad Jr. and, it seems he has the right to be a bit upset. While he obviously struck out swinging, that's not what has him livid.
The 20-year-old faced more called strikes on pitches outside of the zone than inside it during the contest.
Down and late in the game, Guerrero Jr. decided to air his grievances with the umpire, and ended up paying the price for it.
It's easy to lose your cool if you've continuously fallen victim to strike calls on pitches outside the zone, and Vlad was fed up with it on Friday.
