VIDEO: Watch Eric Hosmer Lollygag Around the Bases on Manny Machado's Insane Near Home Run

Manny Machado crushed a low fastball off of Milwaukee Brewers starter Zach Davies, sending it out to deep center field for a home run...or so he thought. Umpires ruled the hit a double after it bounced off of the top of the wall and re-entered play. That decision was apparently news to Padres first baseman Eric Hosmer, who was tagged out at third while trotting home at a snail's pace, assuming Machado had gone yard.

This is a rookie mistake from a veteran player. Despite the hit appearing to be a home run, Hosmer should have been busting down the line once he saw the ball re-enter play.

Because he was tagged out before reaching third base, Machado was only awarded a single for his blast, as he advanced to second on the ensuing throw.

You never know what the official ruling on that type of hit might be, and in this case, it came back to bite Hosmer.
