VIDEO: Watch Mike Mussina Speak to Crowd and Throw Out First Pitch Before Yankees-A's
By Michael Luciano
Even after he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame following far too long of a wait, former Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees starter Mike Mussina proved that he still has the nasty breaking ball that made him one of the best starters in the game. Before the Yankees took on the Oakland Athletics, Mussina threw out the first pitch to his son, and that sharp break resembles the one he had in the early 2000s.
The Yankees hosted "Mike Mussina Day" on Sunday, which payed homage to No. 35's eight years in pinstripes.
He may lack the championship rings and All-Star nominations of some other Yankee greats, but his 1,278 strikeouts and 123 wins in eight seasons can never be taken away from him.
Mussina, who was elected into the Hall on his sixth ballot with 76% of the vote, thanked the fans for all the memories he shared with them during his eight years as a Yankee.
"Moose" remains one of the most recognizable Yankees of the last millennium and has finally earned his spot alongside the rest of the greats in Cooperstown.
