VIDEO: Willie Taggart Attempts to Explain Bizarre 'Dehydration' Comment Following FSU Loss to BSU
By Kevin Aquino
Florida State head coach Willie Taggart wanted to set the record straight when he said that his team needed to hydrate more following a loss to No. 24 Boise State. He clarified his statements today during media availability:
First things first: an absolutely stellar interview from Taggart for taking a swig of water while reading his quote aloud and emphasizing that the team is sponsored by Powerade and NOT Gatorade.
Taggart is putting the blame on himself and the rest of his coaching staff for not enforcing hydration upon his players, which begs the question: is he fit to be a head coach?
Florida State OL Baveon Johnson told 247Sports that "conditioning wasn't our strong suit" following Taggart's hydration comments on Monday, and the box score may agree with that sentiment.
The Seminoles had a 21-6 lead after the first quarter, before going scoreless in the second half, losing 36-31.
Though Taggart was able to clarify his comments, lack of conditioning and dehydration aren't great excuses for an NCAA Division I team that had a whole offseason to prepare....and played on their own field.
