VIDEO: Xander Bogaerts Joins Elite Red Sox Company With 30th Home Run of Season
By Adam Weinrib
One wasn't enough for the Red Sox superstar shortstop on Wednesday night. Knowing history was in sight, Xander Bogaerts slammed a second, lead-extending bomb into the Colorado night for his 30th of the year, drawing his name alongside...Nomar Garciaparra in the Sox history books. This side view of Bogey's bomb really reinforces just how sweet his swing is.
Though he comes with fewer built-in ticks and quirks, Bogaerts is every bit the hitter Garciaparra was, and his leadership qualities at a young age seem to outshine Boston's former star.
In many ways, the trade of Garciaparra was a watershed moment for the 2004 World Series-winning Red Sox squad that needed to shed something indescribable in order to finish the deal. The arrival of Bogaerts, and his ability to match Nomar swing for swing, cements this Sox generation as one that's entirely left the past in the dust. And it looks beautiful.
Something tells us he's not stopping at 30, either.
