VIDEO: Yankees 16-Year-Old Super Prospect Jasson Dominguez Destroys 1st Home Run With NYY
By Adam Weinrib
Yankee fans have heard of "The Martian" Jasson Dominguez since long before the ink was dry on his July 2 deal. But now, after waiting all summer for him to take the field, the 16-year-old switch-hitter has emerged, and he is predictably mashing. New York, contain your gasps; here's Dominguez's first dinger in a Yankee uniform.
It sounds absurd to say, seeing as the Yankees boast star power 'til the cows come home, but Dominguez might be their most hyped, most mysterious, and most advanced/dynamic offensive prospect in team history. When have they ever had someone whose legend started so early?
Dominguez signed for a record $5.1 million bonus this summer, and wasn't allowed to appear in official contests following the contract, instead waiting until now for the Dominican Instructional League to begin.
As for this particular shot? Dominguez told Baseball America he didn't even feel that great about it.
“When I hit it, I knew the ball was going to leave the yard,” Dominguez said, “but it was not my best contact. I didn’t get it. I didn’t square the ball up.”
More dingers, please. We demand it.
