VIDEO: Yankees Adorably Put Cast on Edwin Encarnacion's Plush Parrot After Slugger Fractures Wrist
By Karl Rasmussen
Edwin Encarnacion suffered a broken wrist in the eighth inning of the Yankees doubleheader against the Boston Red Sox, and was subsequently placed on the 10-day IL. With Edwin dealing with an ailing wrist, his teammates decided to put a cast on his plush parrot that Gio Urshela bought for him, a symbol of his signature 'parrot walk' home run celebration.
No one will be walking the parrot around the base paths at Yankee Stadium for quite some time in Encarnacion's absence, but the Yanks tried to lift his spirits with the addition to his plush pet.
The Yankees will miss their star slugger while he's sidelined, and it comes at a most inopportune time considering fellow first baseman Luke Voit is also sidelined.
Hopefully the two sluggers won't be out too long, but for now, Edwin will find some comfort in knowing his stuffed animal companion will be with him every step of the way.
