VIDEO: Yankees Break Open Game With Epic 6th Inning Capped off by 3-Run Double From Thairo Estrada
By Michael Luciano
Knowing that several members of the vaunted Tampa Bay Rays bullpen, including Jose Alvarado, Diego Castillo, and Ryne Stanek, were waiting to face them in a 5-5 tie, things looked pretty grim for the Yankees. However, Stanek and Castillo couldn't find the strike zone and walked in three runs before Thairo Estrada capped off the big inning with a bases-clearing double, which put the Yankees up 11-5.
For a rookie against a formidable bullpen with the bases loaded in a game that will decide first place in the division, that's some clutch hitting from Estrada right there.
Pinch hitting for the equally spectacular Gio Urshela, Estrada is now hitting a cool .313 with seven RBI and two home runs. Even with several key Yankees set to come off of the IR, it'll be hard to send him down with how he's been hitting.
After his heroics, DJ LeMahieu added a home run in the seventh for good measure. This one is over, folks.
While this may have been a textbook example of how not to pitch in a tie game by Tampa Bay, the resilience and clutch nature of this Yankees squad continues to show.
