VIDEO: Yankees Come All the Way Back and Tie the Game in the Ninth to Force Extra Innings
By Parker White
The New York Yankees were down 7-1 heading into the sixth inning, but the bats woke and made a furious comeback, starting with a three-run homer off the bat of Gleyber Torres. Then, with two outs in the ninth inning second baseman DJ LeMahieu singled to right field to drive in Clint Frazier.
The two-out magic continued with a walk by Luke Voit. The stage was set for center fielder Aaron Hicks, who has yet to get a big hit in his short time since coming off the injured list. He came through in a big way, stroking a 3-1 fastball to right field to drive in two and tie the game at seven.
Gary Sanchez was unable to give the Yankees the lead in the ninth, but left-hander Nestor Cortes Jr. continued his great work out of the bullpen and was able to get out of a bases loaded, two-out jam by getting Ryan O'Hearn to pop out and end the inning.
That made it four scoreless innings for Cortes Jr. out of the Yankee pen.
