By Michael Luciano

Five years ago to the day, Derek Jeter wrapped up one of the greatest careers in baseball history with a storybook ending that would be deemed too unrealistic in a Hollywood movie. In what proved to be his final at-bat in his final game at Yankee Stadium, Jeter ripped a trademark single the other way off of Baltimore Orioles pitcher Evan Meek, scoring Antoan Richardson and giving the Yankees a 6-5 win.

Too often in sports, the best players go out with a whimper, especially in baseball, where a Hall of Fame career can be bookended with an 0-4 game on a 67-93 team that is going nowhere fast.
Even though Jeter was struggling through a rough final season, he managed to cap it off with a moment that will live forever, not only in the storied hall in the Yankees franchise, but in the history of the sport as a whole.
