VIDEO: Yankees' Gio Urshela Comes Up Clutch With Diving Web Gem in Ninth Inning
By Karl Rasmussen
Gio Urshela is clutch. The Yankees' third baseman won the game with a walk-off base hit on Friday night, and then turned around to produce a defensive highlight in the top of the ninth inning on Saturday, preventing a base runner from reaching in the final frame.
Urshela robbed Yandy Díaz of a base hit on what was a hard-hit ground ball to the hot corner. It may not have been hit quite as well as the screaming grounder that knocked Tanaka out of the game, but it still took a heroic effort from Urshela to get his glove on the ball.
He fired across the diamond for the out, preventing the Rays from getting the leading run on the basepaths. The 27-year-old is quickly becoming a fan favorite in the Bronx, and rightfully so.
