VIDEO: Yankees' Rally Falls Short on Close Strike 3 Call on Slugger Luke Voit
By Jerry Trotta
The New York Yankees' bats were lifeless for eight innings against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday, but in typical Bronx Bomber fashion, the club wouldn't go down without one last fight and attempted to make a rally in the dying moments. Aaron Judge kept the game alive in the ninth with an RBI base knock that brought Aaron Hicks home and moved DJ LeMahieu to third. Then, Luke Voit came up to the plate with a chance to play hero for the Yanks in his first game back from the IL. However, the star first baseman struck out looking on a HIGHLY questionable call. Have a look:
That's about as close as it gets, folks. Most baseball junkies will tell you that the pitch was far too close to take given the circumstances, however.
We also admire Voit's efforts to "dodge" the pitch in an attempt to manipulate the ump, but blue wasn't having any of it.
And if you're a Pinstripe buff who emphatically disagrees with the call, this next graphic depicts that the tailing 97 mph fastball did in fact catch the high inside corner.
Truthfully, the call could've gone either way. But a slugger of Luke's caliber should not be fishing for a walk there.
