After trading star wideout Stefon Diggs to the Buffalo Bills for a package of draft picks last week, the Minnesota Vikings were expected to follow that up with a free agent signing to replace his production in the offense.

Minnesota doesn't have that much experience and depth at wide receiver aside from Adam Thielen, and now without Diggs, the Vikings are that much more in need of adding someone this offseason. It looked like Minnesota was a favorite to sign Robby Anderson, one of the more coveted receivers in this year's free agent class, but they stalled and missed out in disappointing fashion.

The whole point of trading Diggs away was to free up cap space and keep their options open in free agency (and eventually the draft). Signing Anderson would've been a cost-effective move that gave Kirk Cousins another deep threat, but the front office missed out.

Unless the Vikings are waiting to take a wide receiver or two in the upcoming draft, their best options via free agency would be taking a chance on Breshad Perriman or Rashard Higgins. While both are solid, they don't have the same explosiveness as Anderson.

With a pair of first-round draft picks, don't put it past the Vikings to select one of the many dynamic receivers come April. Just know that whichever unproven receiver takes the field next season as Minnesota's WR2, they probably won't be as dynamic as Anderson.
