Sure Sounds Like Vikings Are Blowing it Once Again With Anthony Harris
By Jerry Trotta
It's really anyone's guess as to what the Minnesota Vikings' plan is for safety Anthony Harris after team franchise-tagged earlier this offseason with hopes of trading him.
Considering that Harris carries an $11.4 million cap hit for the 2020 season, it didn't really come as a surprise that the Vikings failed to find a buyer. Shortly thereafter, it was reported that Minnesota endured a change of heart and began contract extension talks with the 28-year-old.
However, the latest buzz suggests that the Vikings blew those negotiations and that a trade is "back on the table." A potential deal could transpire as soon as the NFL Draft, which runs from April 23-25.
Barring a dramatic turn of events, it's looking likely that Harris, at least according to Minnesota reporter Darren Wolfson, will not be playing for the Vikings in 2020.
Harris has made it known that, in an ideal world, he'd prefer not to play under the franchise tag. Despite that, the Virginia product was still holding out hope that an extension could be agreed upon. This report suggests that a compromise isn't close to coming to fruition.
It's worth noting that Harris' status with the Vikings has fluctuated all offseason, so this narrative could very well turn on its head. Whatever the case, the story here is that Minnesota is blowing it ... again.
Can somebody check on general manager Rick Spielman? This has been an offseason to forget for the 57-year-old executive. It's shocking that we still don't know what his endgame is with Harris.
