Vikings Passing on LSU's Justin Jefferson in the Draft Would Be a Complete Disaster
By Adam Weinrib
We know you've been burned by wide receivers who burn rubber before, Minnesota fans, but you have to trust us on this one.
If you pass on drafting LSU stud Justin Jefferson in 2020, you'll not only be losing out on a perfect replacement for a depleted wideout corps; you'll also be forced to cover him with a patchwork secondary twice a year within your own division.
Jefferson's speed was on full display at this year's Scouting Combine, as the junior wideout out of LSU did more than back up his phenomenal 2019 numbers with impressive measurables. In the Tigers' title-winning campaign, Jefferson caught 111 balls for 1,540 yards and 18 TDs in Joe Brady's electrifying, modern offense.
Despite the eye-popping skill set, this wideout class is so deep that there's a very good chance Jefferson falls to the Diggs-less Vikings at pick No. 25, where he's been widely mocked (no, no, in a good way).
In case Minny's braintrust has a wandering eye, let us remind you, though, that the receiver-needy Green Bay Packers are sitting only a few picks beyond them at No. 30. Jefferson is likely to be the only tippy-top-tier wideout available for the Vikings, and if they pass on him, that bounty will leak down to the Packers, who are currently shopping in the Plan B pile for Jalen Reagor out of TCU or perhaps Colorado's Leviska Shenault.
As far as 2020 is concerned, Minnesota should listen to the consensus. If they let the Packers eat their lunch despite a clear and present opportunity to block their progress, it'll be a disastrous personnel decision.
