Vikings Defensive Coordinator George Edwards Reportedly Not Returning Next Season
By Scott Rogust
After the Minnesota Vikings' Divisional Round loss to the San Francisco 49ers, the team lost offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski to the Cleveland Browns. Hours later, the Vikings lost another coach.
According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, defensive coordinator George Edwards will not return to Minnesota for next season.
The move isn't a firing, however. Edwards' contract expired at the end of Minnesota's season, and the two sides couldn't come to an agreement on a new deal.
Edwards has been with the Vikings ever since Mike Zimmer was hired as head coach back in 2014. There have certainly been lows, but for the majority of his tenure, the Vikings have boasted a consistently strong defense under Edwards.
This season, the Vikings allowed 18.9 points per game (sixth), 341.6 total yards per game (14th), 233.6 average passing yards (15th), and 108.0 average rushing yards (13th).
After yet another disappointing end to their season, the Vikings are officially all hands on deck, especially Zimmer. With their luck needing to change heading into a pivotal 2020 season, both the Vikings and George Edwards decided an amicable split would be best.
