Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy to undergo knee surgery

Minnesota Vikings fans are unfortunately going to have to wait longer than expected to see J.J. McCarthy make his regular season debut. That's because the first-round pick has suffered a knee injury that will require surgery.
McCarthy was held out of practice due to knee soreness, but further testing has revealed that he has a torn meniscus. Because of this, he'll undergo surgery and miss some time. It's unknown just how long he'll be out, but it's safe to say he won't be suited up for the season-opener.

The Vikings are all set to open the new campaign on the road against the New York Giants on Sept. 8. With McCarthy sidelined, veteran QB Sam Darnold will be the one to get the start. This is a setback for McCarthy and one no one saw coming. He'll now work to rehab quickly and return sooner rather than later.
