The only thing baseball fans miss more than Vin Scully right now is baseball itself. With the season in limbo, it's always great to look back and find some gems from the days of old, and hearing Scully call Hank Aaron's record-breaking 715th career home run from 46 years ago today is the definition of a gem.
In case you were prepared for this to be a universal highlight with a meaning that transcended generations, make sure to note the particulars. Scully mentioning how a black man was getting a standing ovation in the deep south is representative of two things: how Scully is pure class, and how truly poignant Aaron's moment was.
The legendary Atlanta Brave faced constant oppression throughout his career just based on the color of his skin, and even received death threats from fans who didn't want him to break the Babe's record. Scully recognized the monumental moment and called it in the most Vin Scully way.
