Vladimir Guerrero Jr Admits He's Never Worked Out at a Gym in His Life
By Sean Facey
It's safe to say that Toronto Blue Jays rookie Vladimir Guerrero Jr. didn't quite live up to expectations in his rookie year. He wasn't bad by any means, but he certainly didn't blow the doors off of the league. It was, for lack of a better word, disappointing.
And it's also terrifying. Why? Because the man has apparently never worked out in a gym in his entire life.
"I've never worked out at the gym before," said Guerrero. "I've never lifted weights before."
There have been plenty of questions about Guerrero's weight since he entered the league. Despite standing 6-feet-2-inches tall, he weighs 250 pounds, and now the reason why is clear.
But if anything, this just proves that he can only go up from where he is right now. The fact that this man, the guy who put up one of the greatest power displays in Home Run Derby history, has never been to the gym in his life speaks volumes about his potential as a baseball player.
His main priority, he says, is "definitely playing third." Getting healthy would no doubt help him stay at the hot corner, but he might also see some benefits at the plate. If he spends some time working out in the offseason like he says he will, then the .789 OPS he's put up this year might turn out to be the worst he can do.
He'll definitely be a player to keep an eye on heading into next year now that he plans to do more regimented workout routines at the gym. Vladdy's 2020 campaign could be downright explosive if he really gets into shape.
