Wake Forest Transfer QB Jamie Newman Reportedly Trending Towards Georgia
By Mark Powell
Finally, a ray of light for the Georgia Bulldogs after days of repeated transfer and NFL Draft news which did not go in their favor.
Former Wake Forest QB Jamie Newman, who surprisingly entered the transfer portal despite a successful season with the Demon Deacons, is trending towards the Georgia Bulldogs, per recruiting database 247sports. This comes just a day after Jake Fromm announced his intentions to enter the 2020 NFL Draft.
In other words, Kirby Smart and his staff work fast.
Newman had 32 total touchdowns, including 26 through the air, paired with just 11 interceptions for a Wake Forest team that made a huge jump in the ACC in 2019 despite eventually losing in the Pinstripe Bowl to Michigan State.
The rising senior would be the surefire favorite to start at Georgia, despite the presence of Stetson Bennett, D'Wan Mathis and Carson Beck, with the latter two being former 4-star recruits.
Newman had been favored to attend Oregon after Justin Herbert's final year of eligibility. However, the Bulldogs make for a more attractive opening and can offer the ability to compete in the SEC, where Newman might be able to increase his NFL Draft stock for 2021.
