Predicting the Warriors Death Lineup if Their Stars Were Healthy
By Dylan McCaffrey
We haven't seen the fully healthy Golden State Warriors team since before the 2019 playoffs began. They're a completely different team this season after Kevin Durant left to Brooklyn, Klay Thompson tore his ACL, Stephen Curry missed 58 games and they traded for Andrew Wiggins.
But they would be at the top of the Western Conference if they had their core players on the court. If they were healthy, we would no doubt see another iteration of the famous death lineup that blew through the 2018 playoffs.
Now, you don't have the defense of Igoudala and the offense of Kevin Durant to tie it all together, but you still have the versatility of Draymond Green and the Splash Brothers. Put this group on the floor this year and you've got another lineup with a +15 net rating:
PG: Stephen Curry
SG: Klay Thompson
SF: Damion Lee
PF: Andrew Wiggins
C: Draymond Green
Damion Lee sticks out like a sore thumb, but his role includes only shooting spot up threes (35% on 3PA) and play solid defense. Andrew Wiggins is a new addition, but the Warriors and Draymond Green think he has massive defensive potential.
And we know what Green, Curry and Thompson can do together -- 73-9 regular season record and three championships. Between the three, they have 14 All-Star appearances.
Hopefully, the Warriors will return to full strength in 2020-21 and debut a new death lineup to take the league by storm.
