Warriors Don't Have Plans to Trade D'Angelo Russell Until Next Season
By Will Fowler

Where were you when the Golden State Warriors acquired yet another All-Star?
Last night, as our attentions were turned to big name free agents getting max contracts, the Brooklyn Nets and Warriors struck a deal that sent point guard D'Angelo Russell to Golden State in a sign-and-trade. Initial reports suggested that the Warriors would try to move Russell to gain some compensation, but per Woj, it doesn't seem like that'll happen anytime soon.

Right away, one big question emerged: how do the Warriors plan on utilizing Russell, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson when he returns? Klay isn't a small forward, and Russell's potential is limited at shooting guard. You can't have any of them start on the bench, especially given how much money each stands to earn.
Even while Klay is still sidelined, how will Curry and Russell coexist in the same backcourt? Both are ball-dominant, score-first point guards who like to control the offense, and the pairing has left many fans scratching their heads.

The Warriors will have much of the 2019-20 season to figure out what to do with Russell, perhaps using him as a trade deadline piece in order to get compensation on the 23-year-old guard. He's young and under a lot of control on his deal, so they could fetch a rather healthy haul from him should they find a trade partner. And teams shouldn't hesitate to go after Russell, as he's proven to be a far different player than he was in LA.
Only time will tell how this one plays out, but it doesn't seem like Russell will be traded as quickly as we anticipated.
