Warriors Execs Bob Myers and Rick Welts Sign Multi-Year Contract Extensions
By Max Scoli
Although the Golden State Warriors fell short of capturing their third straight NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors, their fifth straight trip to basketball's most storied stage was enough to earn several team executives contract extensions.
Both GM Bob Myers and President & Chief Operating Officer Rick Welts will be with Golden State for the foreseeable future.
Welts has been head honcho for the Warriors since September of 2011, coming to California after nine long years as the President and CEO of the Phoenix Suns. Welts has been involved in the NBA in some capacity for 50 years, starting as a ballboy for the Seattle Supersonics, working all the way up to the role he is in today, and being inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in the process.
As for Myers, his resume is also impressive. He started his career as a sports agent, most prominently with Wasserman Media Group when he represented Brandon Roy, Kendrick Perkins, Tyreke Evans, and more. He was then hired in April of 2011 as Golden State's assistant GM.
During his time with the team, Myers has been named NBA Executive of the Year twice for the impact he has had on the Warriors' culture and business acumen.
Now the Warriors need to lock up some of their star athletes in addition to their management and they will be in good shape.
