The Toronto Raptors won the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history, but what's truly been the topic of discussion around the league is Klay Thompson.

The Warriors star suffered a knee injury with 2:22 remaining in the fourth quarter of Game 6 and was visibly in pain. The team has now confirmed our worst fears, as Thompson was officially diagnosed with a torn ACL after undergoing an MRI.

The injury caught the entire basketball world by shock, but perhaps what was more surprising was the fact that Thompson returned to the floor just moments later in order to bury a pair of free throws.

He returned to the locker room afterward, though it was clear he wanted nothing more than to be on the floor with his teammates.

It's a truly devastating injury for Thompson, coupled with the fact that he was set to hit free agency this offseason, or be offered a lucrative max contract to re-sign with Golden State.

There's a real chance that Thompson won't be able to suit up at all for the 2019-20 season, which would see him join teammate Kevin Durant on the sidelines for the year.

The rehab for a torn ACL could reasonably see the sharpshooter ready to return in February or March, though he'd also need some time to return to game shape.

It was a truly tragic injury for one of the most likable players in the league, and the Warriors officially confirmed everyone's worst fears.
