Warriors Reportedly Monitoring Karl-Anthony Towns’ Situation With Timberwolves
By Scott Rogust
The Golden State Warriors are in a rut with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson out of action. But it looks like the team is keeping tabs on a star big man.
According to Ethan Strauss of The Athletic, the Warriors are monitoring Karl-Anthony Towns' situation with the Minnesota Timberwolves, who has reportedly grown unhappy with the organization.
Strauss notes that the Towns is under contract with the team until the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, but stressed the star isn't happy with the direction of the franchise.
After a hot start to the season, the T-Wolves have come crashing down to earth, losers of 12 of their last 13 games. Despite the young talent on the roster, the team looks unable to contend in a crowded Western Conference, and Towns' patience seems to be running thin.
The situation is interesting, as Towns is in the first season of his five-year, $158.3 million contract. Trying to acquire Towns could be a chore for the Warriors, who already have Thompson and Curry locked into supermax contracts. Adding a third gargantuan deal would seriously limit the depth Golden State would have on the payroll.
If you're a Warriors fan, I wouldn't count on a KAT trade for Golden State. This seems to be nothing more than a case of a team doing its due diligence on a superstar player.
