Warriors Ride Huge Third Quarter to Even Up the NBA Finals as Series Returns to Oracle Arena
By Brendan Azoff
After being down five at the half, the Warriors rode an 18-0 run in the third quarter to escape Toronto with a win and even the series up. The NBA Finals now shifts to Oracle Arena for the next two games, giving the Warriors a chance to take a stranglehold on the series.
The Raptors continually made it interesting, going on a 10-0 run in the final few minutes, but an Andre Iguodala three silenced the Raptors, giving the Warriors a 109-104 win.
Steph Curry had 23 points, despite playing with an illness, while Draymond Green posted a near triple-double to give the Warriors the edge in Game 2, a game which could prove to be pivotal in the grand scheme of this series. Golden State went 30-11 at home in the regular season, and have continued that with a 6-2 record at home in the postseason, with their only two losses coming against the Clippers in the first round.
Klay Thompson left the game in the fourth and did not return, while Kevon Looney left the game in the second quarter and did not return as well. Any type of absence for Thompson will be a big blow to the Warriors lineup, and a big boost to the Raptors confidence.
Kawhi Leonard led Toronto with 31 points, but it was not enough as the injury-riddled Warriors were able to outlast the Raps. The 13-point edge in the third quarter proved to be decisive, and now the Raptors must steal a game on the road or face a 3-1 deficit and possibly another disappointing end to their season.
