Here's What the Warriors Starting 5 Could Look Like With Giannis Antetokounmpo
By Michael Luciano
The Warriors might have lost a superstar during the previous offseason when Kevin Durant bolted for Brooklyn, but they could replace him with 2019 NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, as reports state that Golden State will aggressively pursue the Greek Freak if he can't reach a long-term contract with the Milwaukee Bucks. It goes without saying that Giannis would have a transformative impact on the Warriors lineup, which could make them top dog in the NBA once again.
5. C: Eric Paschall
The Warriors are at their best with a smaller, mobile center, so the 6-7 Paschall could easily handle the duties on the interior. With 14.0 points and 4.6 rebounds as a rookie, Paschall is showing that he can guard the paint pretty well and finish off easy buckets close to the rim while stepping out for the occasional long ball. The former Villanova Wildcat is a promising prospect worth developing for Golden State.
4. PF: Draymond Green
Green is struggling to carry the load on offense and defense, but he remains the best player in the league when it comes to filling a tertiary role as a defensive stopper and physical presence inside post-Dennis Rodman. Green can return to his normal scoring load when the Splash Brothers return from injuries and Giannis takes up a big chunk of the offensive workload.
3. SF: Giannis Antetokounmpo
There is no disputing that Giannis is one of the greatest all-around players of the last decade, as his ability to lock down on defense and attack the rim is unrivaled in today's NBA. His addition of a quality three-point shot should help his transition to a Warriors team that thrives on ball movement and shooting the ball from deep. If Milwaukee doesn't get a deal done, the Warriors could win the West once again by adding Giannis.
2. SG: Klay Thompson
Thompson hasn't played this year, as he is still recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in the NBA Finals. While 2020 is a wash for the Warriors as a whole and Thompson personally, there is no denying that he is one of the the best catch-and-shoot weapons in the league, and his sweet shooting will once again guide Golden State to the postseason in 2021. With Giannis and Steph attracting most of the attention on defense, Thompson could be in for a career year scoring-wise.
1. PG: Steph Curry
No, Jordan Poole is not going to be here. Curry's 2019-20 season was limited to just a couple of games due to his hand injury, and he didn't look like the usual dominant Steph we're used to seeing. Should Steph return to full health, and should Giannis arrive in The Bay and attract the defensive attention away from Curry and onto him, we could see the Davidson product rising, firing, and draining it from 35 feet out once more.
