Warriors Trade Alec Burks and Glenn Robinson to the 76ers
By Jerry Trotta
It was expected that the Golden State Warriors were taking calls regarding possible trades for wingers Alec Burks and Glenn Robinson III when the pair were announced as late scratches for Wednesday's tilt against the Brooklyn Nets.
Well, a few hours later, general manager Bob Myers got a deal done which will send both players out of town.
Golden State agreed to send Burks and Robinson III to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for three second-round draft picks (Dallas' 2020, Denver's 2021, and Toronto's 2022).
This is a move that works out quite well for both sides. Philadelphia acquired some much-needed depth and three-point shooting off the bench. Both Burks and Robinson are shooting over 37% from beyond the arc this season, averaging 1.8 and 1.4 3's per game respectively.
The Warriors, on the other hand, were striving to shed salary in order to get under the luxury tax, and this trade helped them do just that. Per Adrian Wojnarowski, their tax bill has scaled down from $9.3 million to $3.4 million, meaning they are less than $1.4 million above the threshold.
Though this deal will be considered a win in GM Elton Brand's eyes, he will be forced to tweak Philly's roster following this trade. The 76ers' roster was at 15 before the trade, which means that they will need to offload or merely waive two players as part of the deal.
They'll have until 3:00 p.m. ET on Thursday to do just that.
