Nationals Prospect Fausto Segura Reportedly Passes Away in Motorcycle Accident

The reigning World Series champions received some terribly sad news Monday. Right-handed pitching prospect Fausto Segura has died at the age of 23 as confirmed by Dominican Republic-based journalist Héctor Gómez.
The minor leaguer was involved in a motorcycle accident in his hometown of Barahona, Dominican Republic. The Washington Nationals and Major League Baseball have yet to make public comments about Segura's passing.

Segura has been with in the Nationals' minor league system for the past three years, and spent a short season last year with the Auburn Doubledays, their Class-A team in the New York-Penn League.
Gómez reported that the 23-year-old was working to become an MLB player in order to support his family and help lift them out of tough times. Segura registered 33 strikeouts over 17 games in his short time in the MiLB. He also recored an ERA of 3.21 and two wins with the Doubledays.

Losing and up-and-comer at such a young age when he had so much of his life and career ahead of him is the worst kind of tragedy. As the baseball world mourns this loss, our thoughts are with Fausto Segura's family at this truly difficult time.
