The Washington Redskins have lived in mediocrity for years now. With a new regime under Ron Rivera, they're going to have to make some changes to sustain some success and build upon their roster. However, to do that, some difficult, almost heartbreaking decisions could be on the way.
With a strong defensive line, could the Redskins get rid of four-time Pro-Bowler Ryan Kerrigan?
Kerrigan has been a star and fan favorite for the Redskins for nine seasons. However, the Redskins are overloaded on their line and especially at defensive end. With great young players at the position, Kerrigan, who was placed on injured reserve last season, just doesn't have quite as clear a purpose anymore. Keep in mind, Washington just brought in generational talent Chase Young via the NFL Draft.
The #Redskins with new HC Ron Rivera select Ohio State DE Chase Young at No. 2. Add Young to a defensive line with Daron Payne, Jonathan Allen, Montez Sweat, Matt Ioannidis and Ryan Kerrigan. Pretty nasty.

And now the draft really begins...
By drafting Young, the Redskins have given themselves the opportunity to have a cycle of Young, Kerrigan, and Montez Sweat. That's certainly tempting, but it's overkill. The Redskins just haven't been a good team, and they have serious needs at other positions. Saturating the defensive line would be putting all of their eggs in one basket and neglecting other spots.
Kerrigan carries an $11.6 million cap hit in 2020, with no dead cap hit if they decide to cut him.
Could DE Ryan Kerrigan be the next Redskin on the trading block? https://t.co/UmO0xFYXvn

If the Redskins want to build a successful franchise, they can't be dishing out money to overstock an already deep position. After already trading away Trent Williams, Kerrigan could be the next veteran playmaker on his way out.
