Former Giants and Current Redskins WR Cody Latimer Arrested and Booked on Troubling Charge
By Scott Rogust
The NFL hasn't had the best publicity the past couple of days, as evidenced by the disturbing armed robbery allegations of New York Giants cornerback DeAndre Baker and Seattle Seahawks defensive back Quinton Dunbar. Now, they've got another case to worry about.
Washington Redskins wide receiver Cody Latimer was arrested in Englewood, Colorado early Saturday morning on a variety of charges, including assault, after police received calls about shots being fired inside an apartment. Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived at the residence and took Latimer into custody. He's currently being held on a $25,000 bond.
All told, Latimer is charged with second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, illegal discharge of a firearm, prohibited use of a weapon, and menacing.
The veteran wideout was a 2014 second-round pick by the Denver Broncos, with whom he spent four years. Latimer signed on with the Giants in 2018, where he served as the team's No. 4 receiver on the depth chart for two seasons. This past March, he signed on with Washington on a one-year, $1.1 million contract.
In his six-year career, Latimer has recorded 70 receptions for 935 yards and six touchdowns.
The Redskins thought they avoided disaster with Dunbar, having traded him to the Seahawks this offseason. Now, they have to deal with a whole lot of drama now that Latimer is staring down a legal maelstrom.
