Washington State's Anthony Gordon Changing Number at Senior Bowl to Honor Tyler Hilinski
By Michael Luciano
Washington State quarterback Anthony Gordon was one of the most electric, high-volume passers in the country last year under Mike Leach, and his performance ended up earning him an invite to the Senior Bowl in Mobile.
Instead of his traditional No. 18, Gordon will wear No. 3, which was the number worn by former Cougars QB Tyler Hilinski, who committed suicide in 2018.
Former Washington State and New York Jets QB Luke Falk honored Hilinski in the same fashion two years ago.
No. 3 or No. 18, Gordon is going to put on a show in Mobile. In just 13 games, Gordon threw for 5,579 yards, completing 72 percent of his passes while throwing 48 touchdowns.
With a live arm and arguably the quickest release out of all the Senior Bowl QBs, Gordon could see his stock rise if he is able to answer questions about his footwork and performance outside of the Leach Air Raid instituted in Pullman.
Gordon's tribute to the former Cougar QB shows that the legend of Hilinski isn't going away any time soon.
