VIDEO: Kris Bryant Sets Cubs Franchise Record With 30th and 31st Homers of the Season
By Michael Luciano
Kris Bryant is not stranger to breaking Cubs records, and he added another one to his long list this afternoon against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Bryant slammed his 30th home run of the season in the first inning, which gave him Chicago's franchise record for home runs in a player's first five seasons. Bryant's blast gave the Cubs a 3-0 lead over the Pirates.
This was the first time since 2016, when Bryant led the Cubs to a World Series and won the MVP, that he has hit 30 home runs. Amid rumors that he could leave through a trade or free agency, he continues to dominate NL Central competition.
Oh, and he stepped up in the third inning and hit another.
The Cubs are in danger of slipping out of the Wild Card picture thanks to the Javier Baez injury, but Bryant is at least doing his part to keep the Cubs right in the thick of things in the playoff hunt.
