As Tom Brady's recent departure proves, even the greatest and most loyal of New England Patriots players can be rubbed the wrong way by Bill Belichick's overbearing style of coaching. Brady is far from the only New England legend to feel the same way.

Wes Welker, a former All-Pro receiver in New England who is currently the wide receivers coach for the San Francisco 49ers, admitted on an interview that he at times found it difficult to full enjoy football while playing under Belichick.

"I just like enjoying the game. I like having fun, all those things," Welker said " I feel like you’re playing your best ball when you’re having fun and enjoying yourself. I think there were some times where I didn’t really feel that at times for different reasons."

Welker, who made five straight Pro Bowls and morphed into an ideal slot receiver as a Patriot, seems like a much more relaxed player and coach than Belichick, so it is perhaps understandable why Welker didn't enjoy his time in Foxborough as much as we originally thought.

Playing under Belichick can be profitable and successful, but you're going to run into some problems if you don't fall in line. While the Belichick regime helped turn Welker into an elite receiver, it also sucked out the joy for playing the game. Whether that's worth the championship glory is a case-by-case basis.
