White Sox SP Carlos Rodon Tweets Funny Jab at Cubs Amid Coronavirus Outbreak
By Jerry Trotta
Our worst and inevitable fears have come to fruition in bunches across the last 24 hours. Amid the postponement, suspension and even cancellation of various sports leagues across the world, the MLB announced it would be delaying Opening Day due to the coronavirus outbreak.
As for some reason is always the case during a national crisis, stores have been stripped dry of toilet paper as folks prepare to bunker down and stay healthy. While baseball won't be around for the time being, the rivalries the sport has created remain, and White Sox pitcher Carlos Rodón took a toilet paper-themed jab at the Cubs via Twitter on Thursday evening.
For those who were unable to get their hands on some TP before their local store sold out, Rodón is happy to direct you to a nearby Cubs' merchandise retailer to pick up a fresh batch.
Why toilet paper belongs on the list of items people are panic-buying is a discussion for another day, but the lefty used that to his advantage when roasting the Sox's North Side rivals.
White Sox fans were unsurprisingly quick to endorse the banter.
People should proceed with caution before cracking jokes during a time like this, but Rodón hit the nail right on the head with this tweet. Reminding fans of the boiling blood between the White Sox and Cubs is as clever as it gets, though considering he's failed to maintain a sub-4.00 ERA in any of the last four seasons, he may not want to be so quick to chirp.
