White Sox Need to Stop Messing Around and Promote Top Prospect Luis Robert
By Karl Rasmussen
The Chicago White Sox are in great position for their rebuild, already showing incredible promise in their lineup with some of their top prospects transforming into everyday players.
Well, an injury has opened up a roster spot in the big leagues, and there's an obvious candidate to fill the void. After Eloy Jimenez was placed on the 10-day IL, the outfield in the Southside got a bit less crowded, and waiting in the minors if the perfect prospect to replace him: Luis Robert.
Robert has been on fire in the minor leagues, fast-tracking his way into Triple-A despite starting the season at the A+ level.
Most of his minor league at-bats have occurred at Double-A this year, where he slashed .314/.352/.518 with 8 home runs, 29 RBI and 21 steals in 56 games. He's only spent six games at Triple-A this year, and already has 3 homers and 9 RBI.
Robert ranks as MLB's No. 5 overall prospect. He owns a beautiful and powerful swing and arguably even more impressive is his speed on the base paths. The 21-year-old has the makings of a future star who could boast 30/30 upside.
Robert would be an upgrade over any one of Charlie Tilson, Jon Jay and Ryan Cordell in the outfield, and with Jimenez hitting the shelf, the time is ripe for a promotion.
While the Sox may opt to continue manipulating service time for the slugging outfielder, it's clear that he has nothing left to prove in the minor leagues.
