White Sox Place Yoan Moncada on 10-Day IL
By Scott Rogust
The Chicago White Sox will be without their starting third baseman for a decent stretch of time.
Yoan Moncada will be placed on the 10-day injured list due to a hamstring strain, the White Sox announced on Wednesday.
Moncada suffered the injury on Tuesday night against the New York Mets. In the first inning, Moncada went to field a ground ball, but came up limping, forcing him out of the game.
General manager Rick Hahn told the media on Wednesday that an MRI revealed that Moncada had suffered a Grade 1 hamstring strain, and will likely be out for the next two weeks.
After being signed by the Boston Red Sox as a international free agent in 2016, Moncada has finally had his breakout season in the majors. In 97 games this year, the 24-year-old is slashing .301/.358/.535, with 20 home runs and 59 RBI.
Yoan Moncada is proof that Chicago's rebuild is accelerating. While the injury is not serious, it does put a halt to the momentum Moncada has built throughout the 2019 season.
