White Sox Top Prospect Luis Robert Hits 20/20 Mark in Utterly Dominant Minor League Season
By Brian Cass
Chicago White Sox prospect Luis Robert has been absolutely dominant in the minors this season. After posting an eye-popping slash line of .314/.362/518 while playing in Double-A Birmingham, Robert hasn't missed a beat since being promoted to Class Triple-A Charlotte, where he's batted .440 with three homers, one triple, two doubles and three stolen bases.
With this ridiculous production, Robert has hit the 20/20 mark for homers and steals in the minors this season, joining the Houston Astros' Kyle Tucker and the Cleveland Indians' Will Benson as the only minor league sluggers to do so in 2019.
The 21-year-old outfielder certainly has a bright future ahead of him after posting such stellar numbers in the minors. The big question now is, when will the White Sox call Robert up to the big leagues?
With only six Triple-A games under his belt, it's unlikely that Robert will get the call this season. According to White Sox GM Rick Hahn, that's a good problem to have. "It's been six games, so let's keep a little perspective," Hahn said when asked about the possibility of Robert being called up. "I hope he keeps this roll going. It's probably unrealistic to hope he rolls like this all the way through Triple-A. But we're as happy as anyone when we see what he's doing on a nightly basis."
The Sox could certainly use some of Robert's production, as they rank 28th in the MLB in runs with just 390. But unfortunately, Chicago fans may have to wait another year before they see this young phenom step up to bat at Guaranteed Rate Field.
