Why Trevor Lawrence Should Absolutely Be the 2021 No. 1 Pick Over Justin Fields
By Michael Luciano

The 2021 quarterback class figures to be even stronger than the 2020 group, as North Dakota State's Trey Lance and Georgia's Jamie Newman both look like desirable prospects.
The main competition for the No. 1 overall pick, however, is between Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence and Ohio State gunslinger Justin Fields. While Fields has a lot going for him, it's Lawrence who looks like the No. 1 pick at this stage.

There are three separate ways you can look at Lawrence, who threw 22 touchdowns without a pick in his final eight starts, and declare him the superior prospect over Fields.
First, and most obvious, are the physical traits. Quarterbacks that at 6-6 and 220 with his howitzer of a right arm, accuracy, and perfect throwing mechanics don't come down the block every day. In terms of pure arm talent, we're talking about someone who is in that rare Andrew Luck air when it comes to prospects right out of college. That combination of mouthwatering skills should help him start instantly.
Second, Lawrence has a national championship under his belt. While Lawrence has eight touchdowns and no picks in four playoff games, including a win over Ohio State, Fields threw two interceptions in a loss to Clemson.
Last, Lawrence might be a better runner than Fields despite the latter's mobility being used as a selling point. Behind a worse offensive line, Lawrence ran for more yards than Fields last year while punching in nine touchdowns, one of which came during a 16-carry, 107 yard performance against the Buckeyes.
Trevor Lawrence is insane. On the move drops it right in Tee Higgins bucket. Ball jumps out of his hands and his mechanics are consistently perfection. pic.twitter.com/HTjiUQBOg9

Both of these quarterbacks look like they will be perennial Pro Bowlers and worthy of top-10 selections, but Lawrence gets the edge of Fields at the beginning of the 2021 draft process.
