Saints WR Austin Carr's Wife Learned She Had COVID-19 Right Before Giving Birth in Truly Scary Moment
By Sam Dunn
In April, New Orleans Saints wide receiver Austin Carr became a father when his wife, Erica, gave birth to a son they named Clive. The journey up to that point, however, was interrupted by a scare that came out of nowhere.
After checking into the hospital, Erica received a mandatory COVID-19 test. Little did she know, it came back positive. She wasn't just carrying a child -- she was carrying the coronavirus.
Luckily, this story has a happy ending. Clive was brought into the world, and both he and his proud papa tested negative for the virus.
All told, however, it's a heck of a ride that this family has been on.
"[W]e feel blessed and thankful for the health care and all the workers who were looking out for us," Carr said, per Mike Triplett of ESPN.
The NFL is on hold, but life must go on despite the fears and challenges of this ongoing global pandemic, and sometimes, new life begins. Congratulations to the Carr family for their newest addition! May their happiness and good health continue.
