Willson Contreras to Reportedly Begin Rehab Assignment Later This Week
By Parker White
The Chicago Cubs need all hands on deck if they want to retake the NL Central lead and keep it. Well, they are close to getting back a key figure on their team.
All-Star catcher Willson Contreras, who has been out with a hamstring injury, will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Iowa on Friday, which happens to be the final weekend series for Iowa.
The 27-year-old backstop has only played in 87 games this year, as he's been back and forth on the injured list. When healthy, he's been a problem for opposing teams in the batters box, as he's slashed .275/.365/.525 with 19 home runs and 57 RBI.
Not only does Contreras bring solid defense behind the dish, he's Chicago's emotional leader and an offensive threat that fits nicely behind Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo and Javier Baez.
