Willson Contreras' Tweet Proves MLB Players Still Don't Fully Trust Owners
By Michael Luciano
Jon Heyman nearly broke the internet when he made it sound like the MLB and the players' union had finally agreed on a deal to get the 2020 season started, but later reports claim that the proposal has not been agreed to, and there is still a lot of legal red tape that the two parties need to sift through.
Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras doesn't believe that the two parties will suddenly stop the fighting and start singing kumbaya, either, as he'll "believe [the 2020 season will start] when I see it."
The sudden injection of momentum towards getting a deal done came after MLB commissioner Rob Manfred and MLBPA chief Tony Clark finally sat down together face-to-face in Arizona, a meeting that Heyman himself described as "productive."
Contreras, who hit .272 with 24 home runs last year, is clearly champing at the bit and wants to return to play. Unfortunately, he and all the other players are at the mercy of the union and the owners.
Even though no deal has been agreed to, the fact that a new proposal (with full pro rata) has hit the table is certainly a good sign. All baseball fans can do at this point is pray the sports gods are merciful once again.
