Woj Reports 'Mystery Team' is Interested in Al Horford
By Brendan Azoff
Al Horford is expected to follow teammate Kyrie Irving out the door in Boston, leaving the Celtics at a crossroads. The 33-year-old big man has been known to fly under the radar at times, never truly getting the attention he deserves for his talent on both ends of the court, and stands to receive some healthy offers in free agency.
Apparently, there is a an as-yet-unidentified team that has reached out to Horford and may in fact have a deal in place with him already, but as of Wednesday, no one can figure out which team that is.
It is incredible that, in the age of Woj bombs and Shams slams, we still have no knowledge of precisely which team is in on Horford with an alleged four-year deal. Marc Stein seems to think it's not the Mavericks. Could it be the Brooklyn Nets? Are the Clippers for real here? All what we do know is that the five-time All-Star is about to get PAID.
A four-year, $112 million deal is what is on the table for Horford, a deal that would see him bring in an average of $28 million annually. It's quite possible that this would be the final contract he signs as an NBA player.
No one knows quite what to expect from Big Al, but free agency starts in four days. And when it does, perhaps even more than just one mystery team finally comes out of hiding and into the spotlight.
