Mike Montgomery, the southpaw who delivered the most important pitch in Cubs history—the final pitch of the 2016 World Series—won't soon forget his time on the North Side. He sent a heartfelt farewell to the Cubs organization and its fans after being traded to the Kansas City Royals.
The impact this city has had on my career and my family is immeasurable. Thank you @Cubs and Cubs fans - it was a privilege to be a Cub. I’ll always cherish my time here, but I’m thankful for this new opportunity, back where it all started with the @Royals! #AlwaysRoyal pic.twitter.com/oyYSX2Hx8G

In three and a half years with the Cubs, Montgomery was a staple of the Chicago staff, appearing out of the bullpen as well as the starting rotation. Montgomery posted a 3.74 ERA in 119 games, sporting a modest WHIP of 1.33.
The Cubs showed love for Montgomery and his efforts on Twitter as well, thanking him for his contributions during his time in town.
You threw the most important pitch in Cubs history and we will be forever grateful for what you helped bring the city of Chicago.
