3 Worst Coaching Hires Cowboys Could Possibly Make
The Dallas Cowboys have had an interesting strategy of moving on from Jason Garrett. There has been no official word on his exit, but coaches are interviewing for the job so it appears change is coming. What Jerry Jones has to avoid is hiring one of the following three candidates if he wants his team to get better in the immediate future.
3. Marvin Lewis
Lewis spent 16 seasons with the Bengals and got his team to the postseason seven times. But just like Garrett, Lewis could not find success in the playoffs. The Bengals lost in the Wild Card round five straight years from 2011-2015 and Lewis' teams were often undisciplined and prone to major mistakes. His career is eerily similar to Garrett's and this would be a lateral move for the Cowboys.
2. Urban Meyer
If Meyer wants to coach again he is only going to take a big job. Dallas fits that description, but this would be a bad match. Meyer has never coached in the NFL and his message may fall flat if the team struggles. He would also have to accept that Jones makes all the roster decisions. That would be a tough transition for someone used to having so much control.
1. Jason Witten
This would be a disaster. Rumors have floated about Witten wanting to coach and Jones could hire the tight end as someone who won't challenge any move that is made. Jones may see this as hiring someone who understands the organization and who can connect with the players. Yet based on how the past decade has gone, the team needs someone from the outside to turn things around.
